Latvian mitten exhibition

The first international Latvian mitten exhibition "Latvian Patterned Mittens", which is organized by the National costume centre SENĀ KLĒTS, Latvian National Centre for Culture, the art, culture and tourism centre of Stabile and the local government of Talsi, was dedicated to the element of Latvian ethnographic mitten knitting traditions and skills in the Latvian Intangible Cultural Heritage list. The exhibition included 500 mittens that were knitted by more than 260 participants from ten countries. The exhibition was located at the art, culture and tourism centre of Stabile.

Put on your national costume in honour of Latvia!

Culture and Folk Art Center "Ritums" in cooperation with SENĀ KLĒTS invites you to celebrate the Independence Day of the Republic of Latvia on May 4th in national costumes and go on a march from Rātslaukums to the Brīvības laukums. After the march, there will be a concert by the group "Auļi", Katrīna Dimanta and the ethno-folk group "TKP". The event will be hosted by Eriks Zeps and Zane Reiter. From 13.00 gathering of participants for the march in Rātslaukums.

Meet you master!

On March 31st, April 1st, and April 2nd of 2023, the annual event "Meet your master!" will be held in SENĀ KLĒTS, organized by the Latvian National Culture Center in cooperation with regional municipalities and handicraftsmen throughout Latvia.

On March 31st, sisters Anita Kaša and Aija Keiša from Baltinava and Tilža will share the traditions of North Latgale. Knitting master Ilze will tell and demonstrate the nuances of knitting mittens to knitting enthusiasts.

Mitten exhibition

SENĀ KLĒTS, in cooperation with the Latvian National Cultural Center, as well as the Sabile Art, Culture and Tourism Information Center, invites every knitter to participate in the exhibition of Latvian patterned mittens, which will be held in Sabile from 17.06.until 27.08.

The theme of the exhibition is Latvian patterned mittens. Any knitter of Latvian patterned mittens living in Latvia or abroad can participate in the exhibition. The knitted pair will be displayed in the exhibition in Sabile. The author can submit up to 10 pairs of mittens made after 2018.

The mittens will be evaluated according to the following criteria: composition (color and shape harmony), technical complexity, quality (quality of material, knitting technique), the overall artistic quality, compliance with traditions or innovation based on traditions.
