Knitting retreat in Vidzeme
It is middle of the Latvian summer. The most perfect time for knitting and warm conversations, as it is rainnig cats and dogs out... Knitters from all over the world are coming to Vidzeme to explore the region’s magnificent culture and learn how to knit Latvian ethnographic mittens. The recurrent knitting retreat organized by SENĀ KLĒTS has begun!
This time, knitters not only knitted, but also visited the wool factory LIMBAŽU TĪNE, Jette’s house in Lejnieki and the Cēsis Museum. Every moment was special, colorful and filled with joy and love for knitting!

Knitting workshop
Our organized knitting workshops on 7th of July took place in a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere. It was so lovely meeting the Latvian mitten knitters from Japan! Very motivated and skilled knitters. Till next time!
Knitting retreat in Sēlija
A sunny spring day, the road to Sēlija and the joy of being together – that is how the mitten knitters’ community started this trip! Next, we went to Krustpils Castle and the Jēkabpils History Museum inside. We viewed its diverse mitten collection, as well as the magnificent exhibition “Rosemania / The Allure of Roses”.
Meanwhile, in the Open-Air section of the museum “Sēļu sēta” we were able to feel Sēlija’s culture and traditions even closer.
Thank you to everyone who hospitably welcomed us, participated in the workshops, told us stories, and shared their knowledge!
Such meetings inspire us to continue researching, knitting and preserving the richness of Latvian mitten patterns.

Knitting retreat in Kurzeme
Once again we are going in search of mittens and adventures! This time, beautiful views and creative people of Vidzeme. Thanks to the curators of the museum collections and all the creative and active people who gave our trip colors and warmth!
The knitter community was welcomed by Ojārs Sausiņš, whose exhibition of knitted miniature mittens and socks at the Valmiera Integrated Library was extended for another day so that our guests could meet the master and his works during their trip!
On the second day of the trip, our knitters visited the Ape Craft House, the Alūksne Regional Museum and the TLMS "Smiltene". We met wonderful people and their works!
There are many creative and active people in Northern Vidzeme who amaze with their enthusiasm and skills. And no - they are not afraid of the great distance from the capital!
If you are in that area, it is definitely worth visiting the Alūksne Regional Museum, located in the Alūksne Castle. Interactive exhibitions that allow you to poke your curious nose everywhere!
