Support to Ukrainians

During the Christmas season, an integration project took place in SENĀ KLĒTS, where women from Ukraine participated in a puzuri workshop and learned about Latvian national costumes.

Elīna Apsīte "Dzīvais cimds"

On 12th of December Elīna Apsīte published a book called "Dzīvais cimds" ("Living mitten"). It is a dedication to the great mitten artist and storyteller Jette Užāne. The book can be purchased at our store or online store.

A Japanese finds home in Latvia

Ai Suzuki is a Japanese Latvian mitten knitter. She has been living in Alūksne for many years and is the artist behind many colorful and significant pairs of mittens. We are honored to have such a close contact with her and delighted for her love for Latvia.

Expo2025

On 23th of august SENĀ KLĒTS participated in Expo2025 大阪・関西万博 In Osaka, Japan, where we exhibited Latvian mittens and taught how to knit them! More than 60 participants came to the knitting class and gained interest in Latvia's cultural and historical heritage. Now knitting patterned mittens is also a tradition in Japan.

Workshops

As the summer solstice approaches, it's getting warmer in SENĀ KLĒTS!

On June 8, 2025, 38 craftswomen from Japan visited us. They participated in knitting, weaving and leather-working workshops. Amazingly determined and with a great desire to learn new skills!

Cultural and historical heritage inspires!

Open-air museum fair

This year too, on June 7th and 8th, 2025, we are opening the summer season by participating in the fair organized by the Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air Museum! See you!

Put on your national costume in honor of Latvia!

The tradition of the national costume march began ten years ago, when the National Costume Center SENĀ KLĒTS, celebrating its 25th anniversary, went on a ceremonial parade from Rātslaukums to the National Library of Latvia, demonstrating the diversity of national costumes and celebrating 4th of May.

Meet your artist!

Just like every year - during “Meet your artist” the ethnographic mitten knitters from SENĀ KLĒTS meet to share their knowledge and experience! Mitten knitter Ilze is the greatest support and storehouse of wisdom! Thanks to the distant guests - Iveta, Anita and Ilga from Baltinava and Anita from Oxford!
